How to Export Chrome Passwords

Chrome on Windows exports saved passwords through Google Password Manager’s Settings view. The result is a readable CSV. It transfers password records, rather than providing an encrypted backup of every credential or website-local vault on the computer.

Chrome password export profiles and coverage

Chrome can use device storage or a Google Account. The selected profile and visible saved-password list determine the exported set. Another account can produce a valid file containing different logins.

Password export does not include a separate website’s local vault. It also does not establish a portable export of passkeys or every other secret on the device.

Google’s computer instructions place export under Passwords and autofill → Google Password Manager → Settings. The Export passwords control downloads the CSV after any required device authentication. Menu wording may change with Chrome releases; old flags-based workarounds describe a different interface.

  • The intended Chrome profile identifies the source password list.
  • Google Password Manager is available through Chrome’s Passwords and autofill menu.
  • Its Settings view contains Export passwords and Download file.
  • A device-authentication prompt may confirm local authorization.
  • The downloaded CSV is readable at its selected local destination.

Missing or incomplete Chrome password exports

An empty saved-password list may indicate a different profile or manager, rather than a broken export control. Managed work devices may also restrict password handling under administrator policy.

An error or sign-in page downloaded instead of CSV remains that page even if renamed. A normal export from the password-manager interface distinguishes this from a schema problem. Client updates can change interface behavior while existing recovery dependencies remain relevant.

Chrome password export CSV structure

A local text view can show the header and record structure. Screenshots, help forums, AI chats and online converters can expose real usernames and passwords when used with the actual export.

The fictional sample illustrates format without real credentials. Google’s importer and Passary’s Google-export importer have distinct acceptance rules, so the destination’s documented contract determines compatibility.

Chrome password export and destination imports

The original browser set provides a fallback while import summaries, important accounts, notes and duplicates are compared. Import completion alone does not establish preservation of every field.

Passary uses its Google Password Manager CSV action. Other destinations may accept a different format or apply different mapping rules.

Chrome password export cleanup and recovery

An encrypted destination backup opened as a test copy establishes recovery outside the migration CSV. The readable file may also have copies in deleted-file locations, synchronized folders and automatic backups.

Deleting the CSV is a different decision from removing the original browser password set. The authoritative manager and account recovery methods remain part of the final arrangement.
