Install and pair the Passary Firefox extension

Add secure lookup, fill, and save prompts to Firefox. Pair this Firefox profile once with each vault you want to use, then keep the matching vault tab open and unlocked while filling credentials.

Before you install

  • Firefox 153 or newer is required so credential requests remain bound to the exact top-level document.
  • Firefox asks for access to HTTP and HTTPS sites to detect login fields and fill only the credential you choose.
  • The extension declares that it collects and transmits no data outside the extension and local Passary tab.
  • The matching vault must be paired, open, and unlocked for credential lookup and fill.
  • Private-window access is disabled, and Passary never submits a form automatically.

1. Install in Firefox

The installation button will appear here after Mozilla signs and accepts version 0.2.1. Until then, use the Chrome extension.

2. Pair with your vault

Pairing is saved per vault and Firefox profile. Locking or unlocking does not remove it.

  1. Open Passary, unlock the vault you want to use, and leave its vault tab open.
  2. Open the Passary extension popup and select Copy code under Secure pairing code.
  3. In Passary, open Settings → Browser Extension Pairing.
  4. Paste the code, select Pair Extension, and wait for the vault save to finish.
  5. Refresh the popup and confirm Vault connected and Paired.
Pair only once for this vault and Firefox profile. Pair again after clearing extension storage, reinstalling it, changing Firefox profiles, or using another vault. Passary can keep Chrome and Firefox paired with the same vault at the same time.

3. Use the extension

Popup fill

Choose a matching account to fill username, password, and TOTP fields.

Keyboard shortcut

Use Alt+Shift+P, or Command+Shift+P on macOS, to fill the best match.

Right-click actions

Fill all fields or only username, password, or TOTP from the Passary context menu.

Save and update

After submitting a login, open the popup to save it or update an existing vault item.

4. What pairing protects

  • Separate 256-bit installation keyFirefox stores its key in extension storage; the matching record stays inside the encrypted vault.
  • Signed, expiring requestsEach request names its paired installation, expires quickly, and cannot be replayed.
  • Encrypted credential responsesPasswords and TOTP values are encrypted between the vault tab and extension.
  • No decrypted vault copyThe extension never stores the master password, decrypted vault, or plaintext credentials.

5. Troubleshooting

Pairing required
Copy the code into Passary Settings, save the vault, and refresh the popup.
Passary not connected
Keep the matching vault tab open and unlocked in this Firefox profile, then reload it and refresh the popup.
Vault locked
Unlock the matching Passary vault tab. Pairing remains saved.
Firefox says the add-on is incompatible
Update Firefox to version 153 or newer.
Permission denied or page not reachable
In about:addons, open Passary permissions and grant access to data on all websites. Reload both the site and Passary tab.
Restricted Firefox page
Firefox blocks extensions on privileged and Mozilla-restricted pages. Copy the credential manually there.
Keyboard shortcut conflict
Open about:addons, select Manage Extension Shortcuts, and assign another key.
A form does not fill
Reload after granting permission, use the popup chooser, and confirm the saved hostname matches the active site. Report the site without sharing credentials. Passary never submits the form automatically.
