Your complete guide to using Passary
This guide will walk you through creating your first vault, adding passwords, and using Passary's features. The entire process takes less than 5 minutes.
On the home page, click the "Create New Vault" button. You'll need to give your vault a name to easily identify it (e.g., "Personal", "Work", "Family").
Create Vault Now →Your master password is the only way to access your vault. It encrypts everything. Choose something:
⚠️ Critical: If you forget this password, your vault cannot be recovered. We cannot reset it for you.
For maximum security, you can optionally use a Keyfile. This acts like a physical key (a file on your computer/USB) that is required along with your password to unlock the vault.
How it works: Passary combines your password + the keyfile to create your encryption key. Even if a hacker guesses your password, they can't unlock your vault without also having the keyfile.
Warning: If you use a keyfile, you MUST have it to log in. If you lose the file, you lose access to your vault forever.
When creating or updating passwords, use Passary's built-in password generator to create strong, random passwords. You don't need to remember them—Passary will!
Create folders to organize your passwords by category:
Add tags to entries for quick filtering and searching:
Since Passary is local-first, you are solely responsible for your data. If you clear your browser data or lose your device, your passwords are gone forever unless you have a backup file.
.passaryvault fileNote: If you used a keyfile, you must prioritize backing up both the .passaryvault file AND your keyfile separately.
To restore your data, simply use the "Import File" option on the Unlock screen. Select your .passaryvault file, enter your password (and select your keyfile if you used one), and you're back in business.
